Today’s very special episode an interview with Dr.s Christopher Hodson and Brett Rushforth. Christopher Hodson is Associate Professor of History at Brigham Young University. He is the author of The Acadian Diaspora: An Eighteenth-Century History . Brett Rushforth is Editor in Chief of the Huntington Library Quarterly. He previously held positions at the University of Oregon and the College of William and Mary. He is the author of the award-winning Bonds of Alliance: Indigenous and Atlantic Slaveries in New France. Today we are talking about their new book Beyond the Ocean: France and the Atlantic World from the Crusades to the Age of Revolutions, a widely-hailed magnum opus that is as comprehensive as it is accessible. This incredible book took our authors 15 years of work across literally hundreds of archives and archeological sites to write. This conversation is just a small foray into their decades’-long work uncovering the stories of adventurers, explorers, pirates and conquerors French history across the high seas.
