Dr. Sarah Fishman discusses two popular women columnists who reshaped French society in the 1950s-onward.
Today’s special episode is an interview with Dr. Sarah Fishman. Dr. Fishman is a professor of history at the University of Houston, and acclaimed author of such works as From Vichy to the Sexual Revolution: Gender, Marriage and Family in France 1945-1965, The Battle for Children: World War II, Youth Crime and Juvenile Justice in Twentieth-Century France and We Will Wait: Wives of French Prisoners of War, 1940-1945, among others. She was also my former adviser and is the reason I am what I am today. Today we are talking about her new book Bridges to Feminism: Marcelle Auclair, Marcelle Ségal and Women’s Magazines in Twentieth Century France. The book is a fascinating look at two of France’s most popular women advice columnists who reshaped society and played an important role in the burgeoning feminist movement.
