After 15 years as an investment banker and analyst, Giesler pursued a Masters in American studies at the University of Seville in 2016. It was there that Giesler discovered the diaries of Francisco de Saavedra, a man who served as an essential link between Spain and France during the American Revolutionary War and wrote his dissertation on him. Giesler turned his dissertation into the widely-acclaimed book Francisco De Saavedra’s American Revolutionary War: The Spanish Contribution to the Battle of Yorktown. This interview looks into the life of Saavedra and how Spain and France coordinated to support thirteen scrappy colonies take on the British Empire.
